As you will have already read from my Peanut Butter Jelly Slice declaration my love of Bea’s began a few weeks ago and I think I’ve done pretty well to stay away for this long without being tempted to try another of their eye catching sweet treats.
It was half 11 on Friday morning and I desperately needed a coffee. Walking out of Farringdon station it hit me “Duffin and Coffee for £2.90”. In central London this wouldn’t get you a decent coffee let alone two items. My colleague I was with at the time looked at me and I looked at her, we said No and began walking in the opposite direction, but without realising we were diagonally walking away but towards Bea’s. Oh well it was almost the weekend …
Duffins were first introduced at Bea’s in 2011 and are donut mixture cooked in a muffin tin with either jam or Nutella in the middle. Why they didn’t name them a Muffnut, as we renamed them back in the office, I’ll never know!
The exterior is a lot browner and more baked than a regular donut but the inside is just as soft and fluffy, coupled with the sweet raspberry jam I was a very happy girl. My colleague who went for the Nutella centre wasn’t so much, she felt hers was dry and over cooked with a bit too much of a deep fried flavour and crunch to it. Not sure if this was a one off and that batch were slightly over baked or if the jam and Nutella filling results in them coming out slightly different.
