Eat Out: STK, Cocktails and Candyfloss, The Strand London

Friday evening was spent dining with friends in a chic and modern steakhouse, STK located in ME London Hotel.  Fitting when the four of us have recently returned from a trip to New York where STK is extremely well renowned.

We booked a 6.30pm table meaning we were able to order from the Star Deal Sample menu which includes 2 courses and a cocktail for an extremely reasonable £30pp.

The STK Martini was a fruity and light way to start the meal accompanied by a fresh, tear and share loaf of bread topped with blue cheese and oil based dip.

The sample menu boasts a choice of 3 starters and 3 mains to choose from, with sides as added extra.

The deep fried coconut crumbed prawns were accompanied by a gorgeous lime aioli served on a bed of kimchi slaw.  But the winning starter has to be the wagyu beef Lil’ BRGs, topped with special sauce.

For main, and unsurprisingly, we all chose the 200g USDA prime rump steak topped with soft-shell crab and STK sauce. Now I wouldn’t normally choose rump and I did have a split second of doubt when our waiter informed us that Seabass was available on the sample menu.  But as this was my first STK visit I thought it would be rude not to order the namesake.

The steak was cooked to perfection and topped with a crispy on the outside and soft on the inner crab.  The cut of steak had a thin edge of fat that added to the succulent taste of the meat and the STK sauce was a tangy BBQ style dip.  We opted for Mash and Mac n Cheese as sides which were both smooth and creamy.

All enjoyed with a delectable Argentinian Malbec red wine, the best accompaniment to steak in my opinion.

Generally speaking I am a cheese girl when it comes to dessert but we all decided to share the Fairground Attraction which was exactly as described and took you right back to childhood.

Candyfloss, toffee apples, marshmallows, soft caramel popcorn, apple jam doughnuts and cho malt presented on a wheel. These were fairground treats for adults where the cho malt was like a luxury Feast ice lolly, and the toffee apples had the softest, sweetest, cooked bramley apple centre.  The candyfloss was something else and melted before you’d even closed your mouth giving only a hint of toffee flavour that I personally know and love candyfloss for.  Not only a picture perfect instagram dessert because each element delivered on taste too.

This wasn’t quite the dancing on tables experience I’d heard of STK but that’s not to say I didn’t enjoy it.

Great place to people watch and the DJ gives the place an upbeat fun atmosphere perfect for a Friday night out if you want a little more going on.

Mmmmm I’m hungry again now …
