Over the course of this blog you’re probably going to notice a reaccurance of sorts.
Burgers. I love them.
So it seems fitting that my first restaurant review is a burger joint and it just so happens I was in one last weekend … Shock!
I’ve actually got a lot better over the years because there was a time that regardless of where I went I would always choose the burger off the menu. As you can imagine I’ve had some pretty bad burgers in my time!
Being an avid burger lover I have visited MEATliquor and it’s London sister restaurants quite a few times since I was introduced to the chain two years ago. So you may be wondering why I’ve chosen to make this my first restaurant review when I’ve been there before and it’s nothing new to write about, right? Wrong.
Drum roll please for the limited edition “Barrafina Burger”.
The Barrafina Burger was delicious, like melt in your mouth yummy. So much so I could’ve eaten a second and was regretting the fact I was coming to the last bite of my half and would soon be handing the plate over to my boyfriend. A decision on this occasion I was most definitely regretting.
The burger is created by Michelin starred chef Nieves Barragan. MEATliquor’s famous beef patty combined with Ermesenda cheese, a deep fried panko-covered rice morcilla (similar to a risotto ball), mojo picon, Russian dressing and pickles. The deep fried panko-covered rice morcilla gave the burger a totally different dimension to anything I’ve ever tasted before and with a slight spicy kick from the mojo picon this burger had everything.
There were also some other new additions to the menu including a Tower Block Burger. Think KFC but a MILLION times better. Deep fried chicken fillet, cheese, hash brown, jalapeños, slaw, onions and Russian dressing … My mouth is watering just writing this!
Top this off with our usual sides of Hippie Fries and Mac n Cheese bites and we were ready to battle the crowds of Oxford Street once again.
The service is always great here and if you’ve never been before the decor is American, grungy and cool. Always reminds me of Coyote Ugly for some reason, minus the half naked chicks (sorry guys not my rule) and bar staff soaking customers with water.
The Barrafina Burger is available at all MEATliquor restaurants until the end of November, with £1 from every burger going towards the charity Action Against Hunger.
